Re: keeping troughs from freezing

Hi Abby,
Our trough comes into the run in shed for the winter and when it's really
cold, we keep a heater going in it. We also have two special troughs
Nelson made for Malik...they are plastic 55 gallon drums, cut in half, with
halves of a 30 gallon inside each one filled with foam insulation and then
filled around the cracks with the spray in foam stuff. He also cut a piece
of foam to go inside and it did keep the top from freezing but we have kids
who are bull mooses and it got broken. Even when it freezes on the top
though, all we have to do is pop it from the side and lift it out. That
foam insulation really helps. The sides and bottom do not freeze.
