Hi Dyane,
One of the bad things about cell phones is that they are not always able to pick up a signal and are therefore useless in some areas. I always have my cell phone handy just in case, but I also carry "other" protection as well.

No one has suggested a cell phone. (Clearly, you would want to think WAY
ahead for it to be any kind of a deterrant). I don't have one, but am
saving pennies. Are they any use? After all, one lady (on the news)
managed to call for help while a train was pushing her car down the tracks.
BUT, I live in the mountains and I'm not at all sure about how that works.
