That is also the classic result in horses. As for selenium and tying-up,
NRC's Nutrient Requirements of Horses cites 3 studies that indicate no
correlation between tie-ups and selenium. But there have been a lot of posts
by knowledgeable people on this list that dispute those studies. Perhaps
there are other more recent studies that would support this contrary view -
anyone know?
