Hi Stirrup Searchers -
Another thought: if the twist of your saddle (the
part under your crotch) is too wide, it presses on nerves and arteries/veins
and causes numbness all down the leg. I would also agree that the
sciatic nerve can also be involved but I was told by a physical therapist
that curving your knees around a horse & saddle (convex curve) can
help relieve some of the concave stress that some women feel in their knees
which leads to numbness along the outside of the foot. (Our hips
are wide but we don't stand any wider than men so there is quite an angle
change at our knees.)
I used to have terrible numbness problems but haven't
since I stopped riding in a saddle that was too wide for me.
