Pony Express--Canadian style--Reinactment
Anyone hear about this event?
Listening to CBC (Canada's radio station :-)) I caught part of a story
about a 150 year celebration of bringings NEWS (not mail) across Nova
Scotia via horses (way stations and all) Started in 1849--11 years before
THE Pony Express! Riders and horses had some 70 mile legs (did I hear that
right?) completed in about 8 hours, day and night to get the latest
information that would be handed to a captain of a ship and off it would
sail to NY!
One story had a guy racing at night ready to cross a swing bridge. But, the
bridge was not there and the horse, jumped 17 feet across a waterway and
kept on going.
Completed today, there were 8 (?) riders on arabs doing the honour.
If anyone knows about this story, give me some details!
Cheers
Monika, Koko and Ripp
