Mentoring
On the Manzanita 75 ride this past weekend Karen Sweaney and I had Marci
Cunningham as our mentor. Neither Karen or I had done a ride in the dark and
Marci's advice was invaluable to both of us. She helped us position the glo
sticks on the breast collars and offered other advice that helped us get
through this ride. Thanks Marci and I'm hoping you will help us on our first
100.
Mentoring is such a neat thing. Experienced riders can offer such assistance
to those of us trying something new for the first time. I have over 4,000
miles of endurance riding, but not riding after dark. Don't be afraid to
help others out.
Completing the Manzanita 75 was such an accomplishment for my little 14 hand
rescue horse. Thanks Terry for such a good ride and a chance to see if we
could go further than the standard 50. Thanks Karen for being such a good
ride partner, even if it was the blind leading the blind. Thanks Marci for
taking the time to help Karen and I get through it. It was great.
I hope more people agree to be mentors. It can only help improve the sport.
