SCOPING MEETINGS ANNOUNCED
addressing the pending update of
1980 GENERAL MANAGEMENT PLAN for the PRNS
According to the Point Reyes Light newspaper, public "scoping" meetings
for
the update of the 1980 general management plan for the GGNRA and the PRNS
will be at the Dance Palace in Point Reyes Station on Saturday, October
9,
from 1 - 3 p.m., and again on Saturday, October 23, from 10:30 a.m. to 1
p.m.
Scoping meetings will also be held at the San Rosa Veteran's Memorial in
Santa Rosa on Tuesday, October 12, from 7 to 9 p.m., and at the Embassy
Suites on the McInnes Parkway in San Rafael, Thursday, October 14, from
7
to 9 pm.
The National Park Service must conduct an environmental review of actions
contained in a general management plan. According to NPS environmental
review guidelines, "Scoping is an early and open process to determine the
range of actions, alternatives and impacts to be addressed in an
Environmental Impact Statement. The Guidelines go on to say, "Scoping is
a
process . . . . The scoping process sifts all input for critical
environmental/decision significance, decides upon the issues and
alternatives to be documented in the EIS and provides the reasons for
dropping lesser environmental issues and alternatives from further
consideration."
Members of the public interested in the future management of the PRNS and
of the GGNRA property in Marin County should attend present their issues
and concerns at these meetings. This may be their only meaningful
opportunity to be heard on the changes which will take place in these
parks
in the next few years.
The scoping meetings were announced by PRNS Superintendent Don Neubacher.
The telephone number for the administrative offices of the PRNS is (415)
663-8522. The address is Point Reyes National Seashore, Point Reyes,
California 94956.
Please put in your .02 worth...this is _important_. Thanks, Connie B
