Re: RE: RE: New treeless saddle

Hi Karen: I second what you say. I have been very pleased with my SS -
also had the stirrups set back, but do wish I had them back a little
farther. I used to ride a lot of reining horses (back in the days when a
reining class was used as an indicator of how good a cow horse your horse
would be - flame suit on) and I worked a lot of them bareback. I found that
they learned the cues much more quickly and I could bring them along more
quickly with much more fluid movements. I still did a lot of training in a
saddle, but nothing could beat bareback for adding refinement and smoothness
in some of the movements.

>[Karen Sullivan] A couple of comments-his description of the saddle's
construction sounds just like the Sport saddle in that the shape of the seat
is pretty much the shape of the horse......I find the sport saddle very
balanced; but had to have stirrups moved way back. It still remains the
most balanced saddle I have ridden with-but hard to keep a leg on the horse;
my legs want to hang away from the horse.

>Still I agree with the concept-have always thought that it made more sense
to do dressage bareback-then at least the horse could feel extremely subtle
weight shifts and seat cues-you can't convince me that they can feel much
with a stiff tree between the rider and horses back.
