new shoes
my mule just got shod for the first time in her six years of existence. she
has never had a porblem being bare foot even over very rocky trails, but we
are going to an AERC ride in Oct and thought I"d give her time to get used
to shoes. I was interested in easyboot, but I'm not sure that will fit this
mule. Anyway he was shod Saturday and didnt know how to walk around on them.
kinda looked like a cat with tape on its paws. I rode her easy on Sat and
then again this evening. she seems to have trouble crossing the rocky areas
now and even her gaits are not as free as they used to be. there is no
swelling, lameness, and her feet are at the same angle as when she was
barefoot, so has anyone had trouble getting a horse or mule used to new
shoes? Also she is wearing a ooo shoe with the heels shortened to fit. any
fariers or the fariers wife(can"t remember your name) have suggestions on
other shoeing practices?
Thanks Anna
