Hot weather syndrome
CTR in the Northeast do not use a CRI, however, we do use a
metabolic check and jog out. We also monitor the pulse very
closely and on this particular ride most horses had a pulse of 48 or
lower which they had to meet in 10 minutes. Interesting point as to
whether or not we would have picked up the horses in trouble at
that point and I doubt it. At endurance rides, many times horses
with all A's at the previous check have problems when you add
more miles. The hard part here is why does this happen?
