HRM thoughts from a fairly new owner of one....
I don't think I would have had the nerve to even attempt my first ride had I 
NOT had this device.  My horse is difficult to get a reading from the regular 
way, even for my Vet, and the pulse takers at the ride had trouble also.  My 
HRM was telling me exactly what his rate was  while they were scurrying 
around trying to find someone that could get a reading.  It was easy to use 
right from the start and has never given me a minutes worth of doubt.
All I can say is THANK YOU ROGER!!
