HRM on the fritz

Help--11 days before Manzanita, and my HRM decides not to work.  Does
anybody know a way to tell if it's the watch or the transmitter?
Or should I just buy batteries for both?  I don't have time to send the
whole thing to Roger  like I usually do.  Any tips would be appreciated.
