Hi all, My darling endurance prospect came in for her evening feed last Saturday with very stocked up hind legs - both legs looked like stove pipes from the hock down with no definition. Firm, not soft filling. She's been out on a new section of pasture that has good grass, but also blackberry bushes, ferns, etc as it is a semi-wooded hillside. She's an oddball in that she will eat anything green in front of her face, and she's definately NOT starving!! I kept her in the paddock for two days on just local hay - the swelling is gone today, but I am very leery about putting her back out there until I know what caused this. And short of taking a sample of every non-grass plant in to my local extension office I have no way to identify possible toxic plants. She was out there with my older 8 year old gelding, who seems to be just fine, but he doesn't have the wandering taste buds that my filly has....... Any ideas? Should I be concerned with the sudden swelling? Would this preclude her from future distance work?
