And even a CRI is not a diffinitive tool--just one more among many.  Some 
horses don't show a significant elevation in their CRI until it is too late, 
either.  But I'd wager that a pretty fair number of the ride vets in hot, 
humid areas are using it--just as they use every other parameter they can 
evaluate to try to put together an accurate picture of the whole horse.
