We have three children who love riding horse. The way my husband
and I
look at it is that it is our family's activity. Our "family
vacation"
every year is a week long trail ride. We don't go out for
supper, we don't
go to the movies, we don't go to disney land, we go riding. My
kids are
involved in 4-H, we do trail riding and we do distance riding.
If you 
want to talk about entries fees, think about the fees for a
family of
five! But we are consistently told how happy and well behaved
our 
children are. That is largely because of the horses. The horses
keep us
all happy and give the children something to do that they love
and keeps
them out of trouble. That is worth every single dime that we
spend on 
horses and distance riding! So don't count the dollars and
cents, count
what it is worth to you and your happiness. You will find that
horses and
distance riding come very cheaply.
