Growth Plate Fusion
If anyone is interested, Dr. Deb Bennett has listed the approximate ages
that growth plate fusion occurs in horses. While most everything is
closed by age 4, she points out that the last plates to close are the
vertebra, at age 5 or later. Hocks are one of the later plates to
close--around age 4. Much more info available on her site:
//http:www.equinestudies.org/conformation
There are 3 sample pictures and essays. The growth plate info concerns
the last horse, a young Ranger. This can be found about 3/4 way down
the entire conformation page text.
