Trooper Saddles

I have not used the Tucker Trooper but do own a Trooper made by Lary Cox in
TX - and I used to ride a foxtrotter in it.
It is a really neat saddle as it can fit many different sizes and shapes of
horses. My general opinion would be that it is a super saddle for distance,
especially on a gaited horse. I was always comfortable in it even when
riding long distances. I used it on my arab when I couldn't find anything
else to fit, but I never felt as balanced at the trot. Lary's Saddles are
less expensive than Tuckers, he offers excellent & fast service and will
customize. For instance I had mine rigged english rather than western and
used english stirrup leathers as well.
My chiropractic vet had a trooper she loaned me to try out. She likes them
because they are very kind to the horses back. My dressage instuctor had
used them when he lived in Canada and he had the same opinion. All in all
they make a great extra saddle to keep around if you ride a number of
different horses.

Other sources of Troopers include
Lary Cox - Christie Enterprises - 817-482-3418 (around $550)
Jack Haggis - 519-471-3927 in Canada ( old price (1996) and $550)
Tucker - 800-882-5375 ($600 and way up)
Tarpin Hill Saddle Co. 618-548-4089 (1996 price list was around $550)

p.s. search the archives under "Trooper" as I believe I did a number of
posts back in 1996 when I first bought this saddle.
