pit crews
In all this talk about the best thing your pit crew ever did, I couldn't
resist... some of you have given me great ideas to pass along to said
pit crew. :) My husband had no intention of getting involved with this
sport... it was "my" thing... he showed up at the potluck awards after
my 2nd ride when I am debating whether to do a 25 LD the next day, too
(I had already ridden the first day in an air cast due to a nasty ankle
sprain/strain). He couldn't help himself.... after that, he was
hooked. My first 50 miler was a killer but he and my sister and
daughter nurtured me the whole way through!!! The last ten miles
(everybody else was already in!), I think he met me every 2 miles or
so... he patted me on the back every time... and when I came in, all my
newfound ride buddies cheered for me, too.... because I finished....
and that is what it's all about... it's the horse and rider, yeah, and I
know some people don't have/use pit crews, but it's everybody involved
that makes it such a special sport!! It's the people who take newbies
under their wings (thanks, Jan Kennedy and Becke Grams and everybody
else whose names I can't remember) and teaches them, riders and crews...
I guess my pit crew last season included all those people!!! And by the
way, since I never posted my preference.... I vote for one great love
because as one gal put it, her one great love saw to it she got her one
great horse!!! :) Mine, too and I'm keeping both!! :)
