Yep, have always been amazed at that, and often when I see riders that are in
such a haze that they cannot think clearly, I have to remind them that taking
care of themselves is as much a part of the package as taking care of the
horse, because if the rider is not at his or her best, they cannot ride as
well or make rational decisions about the needs of their horse. I have to eat
VERY carefully at rides--make sure I eat regularly, drink plenty of milk, some
fruit, at least some small bit of egg or meat or some such, and avoid anything
with much salt. Others are nauseated by milk and need electrolyte
replacement. Such a disparity between rider needs also makes one think that
what one horse needs may be wrong for another horse.
