Re: RC: When is it TOO hot?
Holy heatwave, Batman.....
I just checked the weather channel site and the Summer Breeze is going
to be hot. Those temp numbers are FL temps. The humidity is not quite
as high as FL but still high. It is also calling for sunny, so no
clouds to block the sun and no showers.
I went out yesterday for a 25 mile conditioning ride. Rode 15 miles to
a hole in the wall diner, watered and electrolyted the horse and went in
for breakface. I usually don't carry lytes on a training ride, but it
was 80 deg and about 100% humidity when I stared out at 7:30 AM so I
thought I'd better carry some.
I carried two quarts (64 oz - one half gallon) of water in my pack along
with human electrolyte in it. I drank every drop before we got back and
I also had two big glasses of water at breakface. I was still thirsty
when we finished. We went farily slow - more to the fact of trying to
find narrow woods trails to get away from the bugs - must have had a
hatch since Wednesday.
All in all after yesterday I am also glad I am not going to Summer
Breeze. It was so hot yesterday you could fry an egg on the front of
your truck.
But I have all the faith in the world that the Summer Breeze RM and the
vet staff will do an admirable job making sure everyone has a safe and
enjoyable ride.
