Basic horse care question
Embarrassing...but this inquiring mind wants to know.
My gelding gets coarse/thick scales in the skin folds just behind the
elbow. Usually it's just on one side, but now it's present on both sides.
His Toklat wool fleece girth doesn't rub him there, and there's no redness
or hair loss. He doesn't react when I curry or brush the area.
BTW, this horse tends to get dry, flaky skin in the winter (not this time
of year). He is rarely bathed (once so far this summer), though I do like
to hose or sponge him off after a ride during hot/humid weather.
What is this crud and how do I get rid of it?
