Re: RC: Zebras
Louisa,
Since I lost the message that commented on the fact that science would
soon(maybe) isolate the color/pattern of the Zorse(for want of a better
name), the comment interested me, SO I am responding to YOUR letter so
I can stay in the "thread". Connemara Ponies(from Ireland) which I
raise, when they lived wild, HAD the dominant DUN color with the stripes
on their legs and neck/shoulder sometimes.
Since there has been outbreeding(Not any more, but in the twenties) we
have LOST the dun color and stripes as the dominant color, and now it
iss a valued(and rare) color that many breeders try to get by breeding
to the "old" lines! It is supposed to show the "primitive" breeding,
especially if you get the "stripes" or slash marks, according to a Horse
Encyclopedia I have. Maybe a long LONG time ago, horses and zebras knew
more than they are telling!!Thanks for listing the site. I am going to
check it out!
