We just want a vet that has been licensed "somewhere". I don't care if a vet is licensed in New Mexico, or in California and is working at a ride in Nevada. >Every ride I've been involved with has had local talent to perform this >function. Probably largely because one can figure on them having their >practice vehicle with supplies on hand. Usually at the rides I attend, the head vet or 2nd vet does most of the treating, and they are generally there with their trucks fully equipped. As a rider I have absolutely *no problem* waiting longer to do a final vet out, vet in, during-ride-check, etc. if it means that another horse receives the treatment it needs. I think that in reality this is what happens - things are prioritized and the important stuff taken care of first. We as riders just want to know that if a horse is being treated, that there will be somebody on hand that is licensed, has the appropriate meds and can handle the situation. Having other treatment vets on call is a good idea, but it's not really very practical at a lot of the rides.
