I found out a while back that just because a vet has DVM after their name,
doesn't mean that they are credential to administer controlled medications. In
other words, if a horse ties up, colic's or breaks a leg irreparably, that vet
can't provide treatment. I'd assumed that the AERC had a rule about having at
least one vet that that's prepared to treat horses at a ride (if not more) -
time to grab the AERC rule book!
If there's not a rule, I guess it's a good question to ask ride managers.
