I seem to remember a quote from Matthew McKay Smith after he won both rides
in the same year (amazing!) stating that it was the weather that made the OD
more difficult than the Tevis, but if you eliminate the weather factor, the
Tevis was the more difficult trail. Obviously not quoting here, just my
recollection from an article I read after his incredible accomplishment in
'95 (I think it was '95). Any chance he's a "lurker" and could give us his
opinion???? BTW, I think the weather at the Tevis is miserable
enough....hard to believe the Old Dominon is worse!!!! Since I'm into
torturing myself, maybe I'd better try the OD!
