The only thing I might add to Bob's wonderful post is let the mare tell
you when she is ready to lay off. If she is doing endurance before she
is in foal, then she can keep on doing it. From my experience she will
tell you when she is no longer comfortable doing it. Mine told me at 7
months that endurance rides needed to be curtailed. But then it was
long slow trail rides until about 9 months. Then it was sessions of
line driving for several miles with me jogging behind until a few days
before she foaled.
