RE: mare in foal
Keri:
While your concept will be most appealing to those with soft feelings for
the mare I must question your complete rationale in view of the physical
well being of a very fit animal.
One of the worst things that can befall a bred mare, and we are speaking of
one that is fit and used to endurance riding, is to be allowed to be a
pasture ornament. The physical well being of the animal is a continuing
state of top caliber fitness.
In the human field, exercise is recommended for pregnant women. Of course
exercise to the extent of well being is what is called for. Not debilitating
exercise as never before performed. There are many "champions" , human
females, who continued to compete in athletic competitions while pregnant.
As a final note, do a bit of study on the physiology of the bred mare and
you will find that judicious competition will aid in strengthening the
opportunities for a effortless foaling.

Come on people!!! Yes, mares have to run when in foal in the wild. They
have
to if they want to survive. That is what God intended. So do the babies,
does that mean we should take them and make them do endurance rides just
because they know how to run!!! He did not take that mare and make it do
an endurance ride. That is our choice. If you want to breed your mare, be
a
considerate owner and let her have the time off, or get another horse to
ride. Don't be so selfish! Our horses DO NOT ask us to be bred, raced and
do the things that we the human race ask them to do. They trust us to
hopefully know what is best for them. And take care of them, not abuse them
to our own selfish means.
