Shoeing before a ride
Hi, all,
I just sat down with Outlook and planned out Apache's shoeing schedule
until January 2000. (We are on a 6 week schedule until further notice. We
used to get 7 or 8 weeks, but that's gone!) I then put in all the rides I'm
hoping to attend. I noticed that I am due to shoe 10 days after Summer's
Breeze and 10 days after the GERA Classic. Is that cutting it close,
leaving me prone to shoe problems on these rides?
Then 4 days later is Big South Fork. Is that too soon to ride an endurance
ride after being reshod?
Then I've got Biltmore and Liberty Run II or Witchdance II (haven't decided
which one or both or neither) to wind up the season. If I do all three, I
will be shoeing 10 or 11 days after Liberty Run II and 3 or 4 days before
WitchDance II.
Is three rides on one shoeing (Big South Fork, Biltmore, Liberty Run) too
much to ask for?
All of these rides will be LD's. Thought we'd get a season of LD's behind us
and then take the next season based on how we do this season. Anyway, any
thoughts, comments, on this shoeing schedule?
BTW, after our last ride this season, he'll get his shoes pulled for 2-3
months (depending on the date of our last ride) while we work on ground
training, longing, and the like in the pasture away from the rocks that tear
his feet up. Then put the shoes back on in January to start working for our
first ride of 2000.
