Re: RC: priorities
I, too went to a clinic this weekend. I knew I wasn't in a good state
of mind - work has been crazy lately, and I have not been able to con-
centrate in a calm manner much lately.
I was chagrined at how much I had let slip - there was a lot of 'Oh
yeah!'s. I have let my steps become too big - not small enough. (I
always marvel at how small small is!) My horsemanship came up again
also - I had Harry Whitney work him in canter - both my and my horse's
weakest gait. He worked about 10 minutes - and for Sorin, got some
good transitions. I got on, and felt these wonderful canter strides
leak away in about 5 or 6 strides to the usual feel - and felt help-
less about not being able to do anything about it! He needs lots of
help, which I won't be able to give him until I have the 'feel' of
how to create what Harry gave him.
It is such a good feeling when the light goes on and you 'see' something you
never did before - but then there are those moments when
you look ahead at how far you still have to go. One has to keep in
mind that however big or little our steps forward are, we are better
for the horse than before.
As far as not competing for a year - see if you can get some like-
minded people together to do what Linda Cowle and Sue Brown do -
you can still get out on the trail, but the whole thing is a train-
ing experience, with everyone in the same frame of mind trying to
help each other out. Good Luck!
