A few folks took advantage, but not many. Maryben deserved a citation book in recognition of her efforts to make this a VERY successful experiment for the ride, and I hope Barb allows us to bring our friends next year! Was Sam good? Well, every good dog has a story to tell, right Valerie?! He tried to have an adventure, but it was thwarted... maybe next time! >> This experiment went fairly well. People were generally cautious about their dogs. As long as the dogs are kept under control and out of the camp, vetting, and trail areas, I can tolerate them. But if someone pushes the limit too far, it will be back to NO DOGS again. Unfortunately, there are always some who think the rules don't pertain to them. I once lost a very good volunteer ( a close relative) from a dog incident, and I don't intend to let something like this happen again. The most annoying incident this year occurred at the Swanton vet check when two dogs, tied to a car, got into a fight just as I arrived. They were just a few feet from the horses and numerous crew and riders and were having a big argument. I put them into the car and they stayed there for the rest of their term there. With all the activity at a major vet check, we don't need a dog fight to liven things up.
