Re: Lyme disease, anitbiotics and probios
You know, Lyme is nothing to shake a stick out. I had it, in 1993 (yes,
even here in Kentucky... though there is some speculation that the tick
could have been brought into the state from elsewhere). I was treated early
on with doxecycline. My husband, Vinny, a field biologist, had it in 1986
in New Jersey, before anybody was quite sure how to recognize it. His
diagnosis was late and took a team of physicians working with the CDC to
figure out what was going on. By the time treatment ensued, he had
developed Bell's Palsy. He underwent a long course of IV antibiotics,
steroid treatment and physical therapy to for the Bell's Palsy. Today, he
has partial paralysis to his face, tics, nerve damage and a host of other
little irritations. I, personally, don't think you are ever quite the same
after you've had a battle with this monstrous spirochete. Yes, there are
worse things in life, but Lyme is nothing to take lightly, for us, or our
animals. I, for one, am cheering on this new Lyme vac and hoping it works
out well. If you live in area of high Lyme outbreaks, consider the vaccine
seriously, even if your insurance won't cover it. My personal belief (and
experience) is that you never quite get over Lyme Disease.

Subject: RC: Lyme disease, anitbiotics and probios
Hello All,
Klassy is on her 2nd course of doxycyclian [46 tabs daily!] in
treatment of Lyme disease. We are giving her ProBios 2x daily to
maintain gut function. She appears to have a bit of colic though
when on the atiobiotics. She is pooping well, but has terrible gas:
I can hear her gut rumbling, and then she groans and seems to burp.
Does not eat her hay but eats grass [she's actually gettting FAT with
this lack of work, and lush pasture]. My question is this, is it the
ProBios causing the gas or the antiobiotics? Should I increase or
decrease the microorganisms?
Thanks!!!
PS, sadly she is still lame [in the pelvis or groin area] and our
next step is to bring her to Cornell for a bone scan. We don't know
if the lameness is secondary to the Lyme or due to fooling around
in the pasture, but it's been 2 months. I am completely paranoid
about TICKS now!!
