"Pharaoh's Horses," a painting by J>F> Herring, was first exhibited in 1848
under the title "Pharaoh's Chariot Horses." It depicts three head studies
of the Grey Arabian stallion Imaum, who had originally been owned by Queen
Victoria. She had presented Imaum to her Clerk of the Royal Stables, who
sold him to Tattersall's where he was subsequently purchased by the artist.
I have one of these great old prints also. I found it complete with ornate
plaster frame in a junk shop many years ago, and have always loved it.
