Tick control
Didn't catch this whole line but want to re-iterate my cautions from my
original (years ago) recommendation about using tick collars around the legs:
1. I ONLY use cat tick collars-cats are so srnsitive to drugs in general
that if it is safe for an 8 lb cat, 4 of them should be safe for an 800+ lb
horse!
2. DO NOT place them on the pasterns-only loosely above the fetlock
3. Do NOT ride with them-this is a trick only for use at home infested
pastures-not only will they have a tendency to fall down around the
pasterns when doing our LSD type training but also people look at you as if
you are NUTS! I don't know if they would result in a positive drug test, so
would err on the side of caution in a competition horse.
4. They do not prevent ticks from leaping out trees and bushes onto you or
your horse, but they sure did cut down on how many I pull off my old horse
who the ticks seemed to love.
Sarah Ralston and Fling (ticks don't like me-I'm too tough)
