If a drug is used (purposefully or inadvertently) on a horse WHO IS NOT
NECESSARILY INJURED, what is a safe time to wait before you could bring that
horse to a competition and be within the rule of No Drugs? (Examples -
Sedated for dental work, or a palpation in an uncooperative mare, etc.)

As I stated, the issue of the buted horse competing in 5 days was not the
original purpose of this thread; it is simply a side issue that came up. And
I will reiterate, the problem you state is exactly why the AERC has the
review policy that it has--so as not to penalize riders who inadvertently
have traces that are clearly not therapeutic. As to education--the NO DRUG
rule is quite clearly in the rule book. The list of banned substances (such
as it is) is readily available. The policy of reviewing "positive" tests is
quite fair to people with inadvertent traces. How much hand-holding has to
be done here? Do we have to have the education police come through every
tack room and read labels for people?
