Drug withdrawl times
I haven't seen anybody
reasonably discuss Glenda's comment on being afraid to do a ride 3 weeks after
administering one bute. I hope we haven't gotten this fanatical that some
think a horse should not do a ride if ever given a drug. ;^0
Tevis states no drugs within
96 hours!!!! not weeks or months. They want a written statement if any
drugs given within 2 weeks in case they show a trace amount upon drug testing.
In prior discussions with
vets the time period of three days was used (72 hours) for most non permissible
substances. Four days is fine to me also (96 hours) But much
beyond that and we are not following the AERC rule of the drug having an unfair
or detrimental effect in my opinion.
If AERC (which is all of us
remember, not some untouchable force) would chose to ban anybody for trace
amounts of no benefit to the horse then it would be time for us to all elect new
board members and get the rules reasonable. But I believe we have
reasonable board members and this kind of banning won't happen again. (I think
it did happen in the past.) But we did get a shift in the board this
year so maybe things are different.
This discussion has seemed to
be based on rumors and thoughts. Where are the horses that had a bute or MSM 5
days before a ride and the owner got banned. Most cases I have read about in EN
have been a bute during a ride or multiday, not days before. Lets not get
hysterical about something that hasn't happened. (Correct me if I am wrong here
any banned people)
Off to Castle Rock, no
responses from me until next week.
