Steph,
There's an alternative way that a well respected, endurance riding shoer
here
in S CA does. She pads, but cuts out a ring in the bottom so that air and
small
bits of stuff gets up in there. The hole cut is about the size of the
main part of your hand.
She uses the honeycombs.
