Shoeing Curiosity Question

Here in Bakersfield CA I pay $60 for keg shoes and $20 for a trim.  If I want pads and provide them there is no additional charge.  At one time I had half-rounds on the front of one horse and that cost me an additional $20, making the total cost $80 for that horse.  My shoer will also come to my house to check for loose shoes if I'm going to a ride at the end of a shoeing cycle at no additional charge.  I've only had to do this a couple of times though.  I would guess that charges 100 miles to the south, in the Los Angeles area, would be close to double what we pay in Bakersfield.  In December, I give him a shoeing schedule a year in advance based on the rides I am planning to ride realizing that there may be some slight variations with shoeing scheduled approximately 6 weeks apart depending on the ride dates.  We talk 3 days before each scheduled shoeing to make sure nothing has changed as far as what I want him to do.  He shoes 3 horses and trims 1 horse each cycle making my bill $200 for each visit.

I feel very fortunate to have a shoer that understands what I do with my horses and how hard they work.
