Hi Leonard,
I ride a POM and I simply pull the buckle up under the flap right next to the tree - the same you would do on an English saddle. Never had a problem with the buckle. Of course you need to use sleaves on the leathers to keep then loose end in place.
This seems to work fine. I also have a friend who does the same thing riding an endurance cutback.
