RE: TRAILER SHOES
My experience with having a horse with trailer shoes was a disaster. I bought
a 2yr old Walking Horse that was padded up on the front with trailer shoes on
the back...I was able to take the pads off immediately but the trailer shoes
had to stay on 4 more weeks (he had just been shod the day before) Everything
was fine until I let him out in the pasture to play...the first thing he did
was run around and in the process hit his back right shoe on his left
ankle(the trailer shoe punctured his ankle) He has been lame for 2wks....They
can't take the shoes off until the soreness goes away...He has had
antibiotics...banamine & bute...(very limited amount)which I don't like to
use...The vet had to give it to him when he initially got the injury because
of all the swelling and infection....It has been a nightmare...everytime he
comes out of the stall hes paranoid that someone is going to stick him with
a needle!! When those things do come off I will probably ring one around the
farrier's neck that told me he will be fine...it want cause any problems!!!!
Needless to say I do not recommend "TRAILER SHOES" unless your horse never
comes out of a stall unsupervised...
