Re: RC: Handling Pastured Horses
Terry,
My stallion grew up in a pasture with his dam (who is separated when she goes
in season!) & my old gelding. The stallion, as a young colt, would come up
running when I returned one of the other horses to the pasture after a ride.
I have to go thru the pasture to the barn, & having another horse sniffing &
nipping at the horse under saddle wasn't something I wanted to tolerate.
Since I had a dressage whip in hand from riding, I would always shoo off the
stallion as well as yell at him in my loud voice. He seems to know that he
must wait to start his horsey games until the other horse has been untacked &
released. My rule has always been that it the other horse has on any tack,
he must stay away. So far, so good!
