I have bad knees myself, and have learned 3 things that help tremendously:
1 - Keep the stirrups pretty long
2 - No leather fenders! They try to straight my duck-footed legs and put
press on my knees. Free-swing stirrups are better -- I just made simple
fleece & cordura slipon covers to go in place of the fenders.
3 - Lightweight stirrups -- the EZRides were comfy, but when I switched to
FlexRides (half the weight) I had even less knee & ankle soreness.
Hope this helps.
