Re: Horse injury

I am in the process of rehabilitating a horse with a suspensory injury. My
vet recommends:
1. Get a good ultrasound as soon as possible after the injury. This sets
the base line.
2. Put the horse in a position to get some exercise, but not run with a herd
for about 1 mo.. A small paddock, not a stall.
3. Walking (even walking riding) is fine as soon as sound at walk. The idea
is to put some stress to help the healing.
4. Ultra sound at intervals (up to once a month) to follow the healing.
Slowly increase the amount and intensity of exercise as healing takes place.
5. Be very patient!! My guy ended up on a 6 mo. lay off before the ligament
healed enough to start conditioning.

Lots of luck. This type of injury can take a long time to heal. My
personal plan is to use him for 25 CTR's and slow LD's this season starting
in June and see how it goes.
