Horse injury

I completed my first 50 mile endurance ride yesterday.  My husband's
horse was on his second 50 mile ride and came up with a suspensory
injury to his right front leg.  He had to pull from the ride before the
half way mark.  We have never experienced an injury like this. We have
been told to not ride this horse for one or two months.  Any info and
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
