Re: Flax Seed



Hi Darrell,

I read in one of my English horsey books that flax (or linseed as we
call it down here in Australia) has got to be cooked before feeding or
you can poison your horse.   Once its cooked ( boiled in water or with
barley etc) it releases alot of oil which would be one the good types of
oils (linolenic and linoleic acid I think).   I dont know about it
making horses shed hair any faster tho.   I actually add it to the big
pot of meat, vegies etc that I cook up for my two dogs and it really
makes their coat shine ( they just love it too!).  I dont feed it to my
horses because I read that it is very high in protein.
