Truck mileage and misc.

I'm settling down for some serious truck shopping, and would like your
input.
Fellow ridecampers who have 3/4 ton trucks - what brand, do you have
a gas engine (what size) or a diesel engine, hauling mileage, around
town mileage, and for the knowledgable about such things - which truck
do you think has the best transmission (automatic) this year? And
what do you think about the latest 'innovation' of having aluminum
cylinder heads with caste iron engine blocks on the gas engines?  I
was really interested in the Chevy Silverado until I found out about
this. 
If enough people respond and there is an interest, I will post the
results of this survey.  Thanks! (Please reply privately so as not to
clutter the list.)
