I dunno. We have a lot of cougars in our local mountains and I guess I see
one maybe every three months while out riding. Once they see me, they all
run like the hounds of hell were after them. Unfortunately, Cato now
considers them fair game to play with, so he likes to chase them until they
fling themselves off into the tall brush.
From what I understand, if you make yourself "big", they won't bother you.
Stay on the horse, shout and wave your arms, make sure the cat knows you're
not just a funny looking deer/potential lunch.
P.S. Possibly also forego bathing your horse in mayonnaise just before
riding out, that good smell may be just too tempting. And if anyone out
there is gonna get so hungry they start licking the horse, it's gonna be me.
