looking for starter horse in SE
Hey guys,
I need a horse for my niece. Here's the deal. Took her to a ride and she
thinks this is something she wants to do. She's 18 years old, athletic,
ridden some, and plans to take more lessons.
The good news. She's SHORTER THAN ME. That means about 4'11". We're
not worried about speed, but would like a horse who could complete
comfortably. Preferably Arab type, small gelding. Leasing is a
possibility if you've got one that you've moved up from that you don't
want to sell.
She's going to school at Carson Newman in Jefferson City, TN. (Northeast
TN). She'll be pasture boarding the horse at the place where the college
gives credits for riding. I'm assuming it's a decent place.
Basically I'm looking for something she can be broken in on. I'll be
helping her all I can, but I'll be 2 hours away. I can tell you that
this will not be a case of taking a horse and going out to win 25's.
She'll be learning on him and if all goes well she'll get to complete
some 25's and hopefully 50's eventually. We might bring it down to my
house for the summer.
I suppose my "wishbook" description would be either to buy a 9 year old
who has completed but wasn't especially competetive, or to borrow a 15
year old who is ready to take it easy and has seen it all.
If anybody has something that fits the bill send me a note.
