The ERC's been doing some high-altitude studies on exercising horses for the
past few years and their results pretty much agree with what you're
saying---there are significant changes that occur within the first few days,
but changes are still occurring after two weeks, if I remember correctly.
I'll check into it, they're pretty good studies (and follow rule #1 in field
research---pick someplace pretty to go collect your data!)
