truck pulling power
Johnna,
I have a 95 Chevy 2500 pickup with a 6.5 Turbo diesel engine and a 4.10 rear
end gear ratio--should be PLENTY of power to pull a loaded two-horse
trailer. It was, 'til I added a nice big cap (not a camper) that weighs
about 400 lbs. Now we are just adequate, no real comfort going up long
grades. The 99 model Chevrolets are supposed to be much more powerful, but
my truck mechanic's opinion is that the earlier models are "somewhat
underpowered" in comparison with other makes. My friend's Dodge in the same
engine/rear end class can outrun me any time. You might give it a try, then
consider removing the camper if the power fizzles on hills. BTW, I burned
out a transmission in my elder Chevy that was rated to pull the same
trailer--just not rated to pull it on long grades, I guess. Too bad the
dealer didn't share that tidbit at the time I asked.
