what is biothane
I've heard many technical descriptions of what biothane is, but in plain
english, picture a nylon webbing halter-bridle dipped in a vat of molten
plastic so all the nylon is coated with a plastic veneer. That is
biothane. It comes in many colors. It is either colored nylon dipped in
clear plastic (transparent), so the webbing color shows through; or
neutral colored nylon dipped in colored plastic (opaque), so the color
of the biothane is what you see. Because it is plastic coated, it can be
shiny or dull in its finish. There is also this 'superflex' biothane
which is simply a different type of plastic coating - more rubbery, dull
finish - so it feels more like leather.
IMO biothane is good stuff (almost as good as beet pulp). You can keep
it clean by dipping it in a bucket after riding, it's tough as nails, it
doesn't absorb moisture and get soggy or saggy, and it's pretty cheap,
too, if you consider how long it lasts. Buy some! You'll never go back.
